We recently interviewed Rafi Ron, President & CEO of New Age Security Solutions on the issue of Structural Hardening in connection with Building Security. Mr. Ron was the Director of Security at Ben-Gurion Airport in Israel.
The following are highlights from our interview with Mr. Ron:
- The two primary risks of casualties resulting from acts of terrorism at buildings are: a) Collapse of structure which caused the most damage in Oklahoma City, the Marine's Headquarters in Lebanon, and at the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires and, b) Risk of flying objects.
- Many of the structural hardening measures that occurred since September 11 will also improve resistance to other kinds of pressure such as wind and water events.
- Many government buildings have already undergone structural hardening regimens. However, public facilities such as sports stadiums and landmark buildings remain highly vulnerable to terrorist attacks.
Our interview with Mr. Ron will be released at our Building Security Conference which will take place in New York City on November 15.
