I recently read The Secret Language of Competitive Intelligence by Leonard M. Fuld. Among the pointers gleaned regarding obtaining competitive intelligence were: a) for intelligence to be truly intelligence, it must be yours alone (even if it is for a very short period of time); b) information about a competitor's equipment can be gleaned by conducting UCC searches; c) information about a competitor's factory lay-out can be revealed by reviewing floor plans on file at city agencies; and d) information about employee compensation and responsibilities can be discovered by reviewing job postings from competing companies.
