Mergers and acquisitions activity remains on a torrid pace. According to Thompson Financial, there were 3,085 deals worldwide, with a total value of $332.7 billion, from the beginning of 2007 to February 5. In 2006, global mergers rose to $3.8 trillion. In 2006, US private equity groups spent $414.6 billion last year on buyouts, more than triple the 2005 total.
